Unearthing Tasmania's rich mining investment opportunities
A new Tasmanian mining investment resource is set to unearth significant mining opportunities across the state.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, said the Tasmanian Investment Opportunities Guide – Minerals included information from proponents for projects that are at various investor-ready stages and open to support.
“The Tasmanian Government is working closely with project proponents to progress a pipeline of high-quality investable projects that strengthen the State’s resources sector and contribute to sustainable economic growth,” Minister Ellis said.
“This guide is another element of delivering the Tasmanian Critical Minerals Strategy and builds on the release of the Tasmanian Critical Minerals Prospectus in December last year.”
Tasmanian Investment Opportunities Guide - Minerals projects include:
The Heemskirk Tin Project, located near Zeehan on Tasmania’s West Coast, which hosts Australia’s highest-grade undeveloped tin resource;
The Firetower deposit 35km south of Devonport consisting of high-grade tungsten and gold with cobalt and copper identified in drilling from the surface to just 150 metres;
Montezuma Silver and Antimony Project, a polymetallic deposit with primary minerals being silver, antimony, tin, copper, gold and lead;
The Avebury Nickel Mine, located near Zeehan, which entered care and maintenance in March 2024, has a production nameplate capacity of 900kt per annum;
ABX Group’s Deep Leads project in Northern Tasmania is a significant, high grade ionic absorption clay, rare earth element project, featuring 89 million tonnes of resource.
Minister Ellis said Tasmania’s mining industry was the bedrock of the economy, particularly in regional parts of the state.
“Tasmania offers a strong platform for mining investment, backed by its rich mineral resources, well-developed infrastructure, and supportive regulatory environment,” Minister Ellis said.
“Supports such as the Exploration Drilling Grant Initiative has seen Tasmania well placed to meet the world’s appetite for critical minerals as well as strategic and precious metals.”
