Tasmania's defence manufacturers on show to the world
The Tasmanian Government is leading a delegation of manufacturers and innovators to this week’s Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition 2026, with businesses showcasing their products and capabilities to global defence leaders at the Defence Tasmania stand.
The delegation builds on more than $800 million in defence-related contracts secured by Tasmanian businesses over the past seven years.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, said the premier international defence expo offered an opportunity for Tasmanian businesses to pursue new contracts and strengthen their position in global supply chains.
"Tasmania's defence industry continues to go from strength to strength, with Defence Tasmania supporting more than 70 organisations pursuing defence opportunities," Minister Ellis said.
"The global defence sector presents significant opportunities for Tasmanian businesses, with Australia alone investing approximately $425 billion to strengthen defence capability over the next decade.
"We’re bringing Tasmanian businesses together at our Defence Tasmania stand to showcase their capabilities to key defence decision-makers and help them secure their share of that investment."
On display will be several Tasmanian-manufactured systems, including an advanced maritime vessel, a trailer designed to withstand harsh operating environments, a mobile camouflage system and a portable maritime simulation system.
Advanced maritime technologies will also feature prominently, with SubSea Craft exhibiting alongside Defence Tasmania and Tasmanian-based Imbros displaying its underwater drone system.
Minister Ellis said recent contract wins demonstrated Tasmania's growing capability as a defence supplier, including CBG Systems securing an $83 million contract with BAE Systems Maritime Australia to support construction of the first three Hunter-class frigates.
"CBG Systems' recent success demonstrates that Tasmanian businesses can compete and win on some of Australia's most significant defence projects," Minister Ellis said.
"These displays demonstrate Tasmania's ability to provide specialised and innovative solutions to meet current and emerging defence challenges.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're backing our advanced manufacturers through the Defence Industry Strategy 2029 and dedicated support from Defence Tasmania."
Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition 2026 runs from 6-8 October. More information is available at landforces.com.au
